UMC ANNOUNCES 20% STOCK DIVIDEND ALLIANCE SEMICONDUCTOR TO RECEIVE A DIVIDEND OF APPROXIMATELY 56.7 MILLION SHARES OF UMC
 

Santa Clara, California- April 11, 2000 - Alliance Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: ALSC) today announced that it will receive a 20% stock dividend, or approximately 56.7 million shares of United Microelectronic Corporation ("UMC"), in a transaction which was approved by the UMC shareholders at the Annual Shareholders Meeting on April 7, 2000.

With the stock dividend, Alliance's investment holdings in UMC will increase to approximately 339,900,000 shares. UMC is a public company in Taiwan that is traded under the stock code 2303.
